Our Story

SGA was officially founded at the end of the 2012-2013 academic year after the founders decided they wanted to share their incredible experiences in archery with the rest of the UCSD and surrounding San Diego community.

Board of Officers

The SGA Board of Officers works tirelessly every year to run practice, hold events, host joint shoots, train athletes, and advance the mission of the club.

Daphne He, Vice President Hello! My name is Daphne and I am a 3rd year Marshall student studying Biochemistry/Chemistry. I tried the beginner workshop my freshman year on a whim and now this is both my third year shooting and being a part of the club. Archery is a wonderful relief from the stress of daily life and I appreciate being a part of a larger community united in a common interest. I hope you will come to enjoy archery as much as we all have!

Abby Hora, Treasurer Hi there! My name is Abby, and I'm a third year Lit/Writing and Music double major in Sixth College. I first got into archery in my first year at UCSD when I joined SGA, and I have been shooting since. One thing I love about SGA is how I am able to connect with other members beyond just archery, whether that is through classes or personal interests. We're always eager to meet new people, so we hope to see you at our field soon!

Thu Nam, Facilities Manager I'm a fourth year Molecular Bio major from Revelle college. I started shooting last year with SGA after I transferred to UCSD from Orange Coast Community College. I shoot exclusively on compound bow in the Bowhunter division.

Gaia Righi, Team Captain I am a second year PhD student studying Materials Science. I have been shooting for 5 years (first 4 recreational and last year competitively). I started archery as a freshman at Cal Poly SLO because I liked the fact that archery tests one's concentration and centers the mind. The thing I enjoy most about SGA is that it is a very social club in addition to being competitive - they keep it fun!

Chris Lasher, Webmaster Hi! I’m a second year NanoEngineer from Revelle who has been part of the competitive archery team here at SGA since last year, however I have taught youth how to shoot in Scouting for around seven years. It’s less embarrassing now, but what originally got me into archery was the fantasy heroes I would read about and watch in novels and movies (Legolas being my absolute favorite). Now it’s less about becoming an elf hero and more about being a part of a team that I didn’t have the chance to growing up. Archery is a meditative sport, and it’s a relaxing break from the stress of school, so I keep coming back for more!

Janae Zhang, Social Chair Hi there! I'm SGA's social chair this year! I'm a second-year Communication and CogSci Design student in Marshall. I started doing archery in seventh grade because I needed something to do on the weekends after I stopped ice skating, but it's one of the few activities I've stuck with for so long because it gives you the chance to practice a lot of life skills in a fun setting and you end up meeting so many amazing people along the way.

Akhilesh Yeluru, External Affairs Hey! My name is Akhilesh. I am a fourth year Bioengineering: Biotechnology major from Warren College. I have always loved archery because of all the comics I used to read as a kid but just never got around to actually shooting. I am thankful that the day after I took the MCAT, I decided to make the time and join the archery team as a stress reliever. Archery has been a great outlet for my stress and I have had a great time so far training and competing. I look forward to continuing archery during my last year and beyond!
