Sriveena started archery in high school and wanted to continue it in college when her old roommate knew a previous SGA member, adding her to the Discord server. She loved going to tournaments and competing, as, in her words, “Nothing beats the rush of being in a one-arrow [shoot-off]” in competitions.

She enjoyed going to SIACC and Westies as there were so many people to compete and she was able to enjoy competing in team rounds. Her fondest memories of archery are when the entire team went for food and dessert after tournaments, while her weirdest archery memory has to be 2026 Outdoor Nats in Lansing, Michigan, as it felt like a fever dream.

After graduation, Sriveena will be working in a lab and EMTing while also applying to med school! Her last piece of advice to other archers is to practice archery instead of doomscrolling… Good luck, Sriveena!

Rick is one of us. He saw the many archers on television and in video games and always wanted to try archery growing up. When he passed by Library Walk in his freshman year of college and saw that SGA was offering free workshops, he, like many of us, just could not resist the call and quickly fell in love with both the sport and the community.

For the 3 years Rick has been shooting with SGA, he was one of the few representing the Fixed Pin division on the team. In 2025, he earned Bronze in Fixed Pins Teams at the 2025 SIACC Championships. In 2026, he inspired many new members to join him on Fixed Pin and became a contender for the Gold medal at the 2026 Championships. Leading a passionate new team, he brought home the two bronze medals and a silver medal for SIACC team events, contributing greatly to UCSD's first team win in seven years.

But as far as competitions go, Rick says that his favorite had to be the 2026 Vegas Shoot. The partying and spectacular venues were memorable indeed, but ultimately, everything is more fun with friends. Friends made the Vegas Shoot, and friends made 2026 SIACC. Never forgetting his relationships, Rick says his favorite part of archery is the collegiate archery community, especially within SGA. As Rick continues to pursue his studies in a graduate health program, he hopes to continue shooting, even after he has low-key switched to recurve, dangit. We'll remember this, just as he remembers us.

2024–2026 SGA Competitive Team Member

Tanya started archery in 7th grade as she really liked the Hunger Games, Legolas, and Minecraft. She did it for a year casually in a local club back in Russia, then found Sun God Archery through flyers for the free workshops in freshman year of college. However, she finally took the chance to go to the workshops in junior year, where she enjoyed shooting enough to commit to joining the club.

After a bit of time in the club, she found herself stagnating in further improving her form, to the point where she felt discouraged. However, after continuing to persevere and show up, allowing herself to be happy with the small achievements, and not comparing herself to others, she regained her stride and continued to improve. With this experience in mind, she advises future members to just show up, not overthink things, and be themselves.

Additionally, Tanya states that “if you can afford it, going to competitions is 100% worth it”. She loved going to Westies and SIACC competitions for the team spirit. But, her favorite competition has to be the 2026 Vegas Shoot. She loved hanging out in between shooting sessions and going crazy about how the club kept winning all of the vendor prizes. It was also a chance to get to know some of the club members better.

Now, Tanya is figuring her life out by working and raising her child (aka, her pet cat). She is enjoying San Diego until she moves away for more work opportunities and life improvements, but will not be giving up on archery. She hopes to improve her coaching as an instructional assistant and hopes to be able to enjoy her 20s while they last. Congratulations on graduating, Tanya, and we hope to continue seeing you on the field!

Accolades
2026 KSL Teams Gold
2026 KSL Barebow Silver
SIACC Flight Winner

Richenda started archery in 2025 in order to bond with her dad over a shared hobby. At the insistence of her dad, who has years of archery experience, she decided to give the trial workshops a shot when she came to UCSD. But the reason she stayed was for the community she found at SGA, starting fatefully at SGA’s first social event—the beach social. Since then, she has invaluably contributed to SGA’s social atmosphere and vibe, taking up the mantle of the Father of Barebows and the nickname Papa Richard.

Richenda has also been an important member of the competitive team as well. One of her favorite competitions she attended was the 2026 Vegas Shoot, where she felt closer to her archery teammates outside of practice. Additionally, she performed excellently at the KSL Shoot, and it was her first time shooting teams together. She joined forces with two other barebow archers at different colleges; with the power of intercollegiate SoCal archery, together they shot their way into winning gold. Furthermore, Richenda also took home silver in the individual tournament, earning her first individual medal at a tournament.

In the words of Richenda, her plans after graduation are “all working baybee”. She is considering continuing archery either in LA County, where she is based, or in San Diego. We wish her the best of luck wherever she goes next!

2026 WROCC Women’s Recurve Team Bronze
2026 NOCC Women’s Recurve Team Gold
2026 SIACC Women’s Recurve Team Gold

Lindsey started archery at the beginning of her freshman year, after being handed a flyer for SGA and attending the beginner workshop. Falling in love with the sport, she has dedicated 4 years to not only being a competitive team member, but also spending 2 years leading the competitive team to dominance.

Throughout all her years on SGA, Lindsey has found her favorite part to be the tight-knit social community. The people in the club are what make it all the more fun to compete together as a team. In fact, it is her closeness and bond with the other members of the club that have lent themselves to not only her performance on the team as an archer and as a team captain, but the team’s overall atmosphere and enthusiasm as well. Lindsey’s favorite and fondest archery memory takes place in Lansing, Michigan, where she and the women’s recurve team (Dani and Kei) took gold in a close match with the formidable Texas A&M. According to Lindsey, “getting to shoot teams with them was always a blast, both because we shot so well together and because they are both great friends.”

Lindsey has been an invaluable member of the competitive team, bringing her energy to every team practice. Her dedication to the team and its people and community has not gone unnoticed, and we appreciate all the time, effort, and work she has put into the club as a board member for two years.

Moving forward, Lindsey will be pursuing her master's degree at UCSD in Chemical Engineering. Afterwards, she plans on going into Renewable Energy, but we are excited that she will be back on the competitive team for her fifth year of collegiate archery. Congratulations on graduating, Lindsey!

Accolades
2025 SIACC Barebow Women’s Team, 2nd place
2025 Cal State Games Women’s Barebow, 2nd place
2025 Westies Barebow Mixed Team, 2nd place
2025 Westies Women’s Barebow, 1st place
2025 Grizzly Cup Barebow U21, 1st place
2026 SoCal Showdown Mixed Team, 1st place

Kye started shooting archery during their sophomore year after getting bored and deciding to force themself to join a team or club. They chose archery because they had always thought it was cool, and, as they put it, the concept was pretty straightforward: “Bow and arrow shoot at target and try to get in center.” After discovering SGA through tabling and the Sun God Archery Instagram, Kye fell in love with the sport during their very first workshop and proceeded to attend every workshop afterward. What started as a way to find something to do quickly became a passion, and Kye went on to establish themself as one of SGA’s strongest barebow competitors.

Their favorite archery memory came from the 2025 Westies tournament, where they took first place in Women’s Barebow. At the time, they didn’t even realize they had won, but seeing everyone around them cheering and celebrating for them made the moment especially meaningful. While the result itself was exciting, it was the support from their teammates that made the memory one they will carry with them.

As they look back on their time with SGA, Kye’s biggest piece of advice for new archers is simple: don’t be afraid to talk to people. They encourage new members to make an effort to connect with others, because even if a conversation doesn’t go perfectly, there is little to lose. You might make a lifelong friend, or you might make a fool of yourself—but either way, you’ll probably never see that person again, so there's truly no harm in trying. At the end of the day, putting yourself out there is how you find your people.

After graduation, Kye will be entering the job market and hoping to find something that either pays well or makes them happy. We thank you, Kye, for the passion, competitiveness, and friendships you brought to SGA, and we wish you all the best in the job search and whatever comes next!

2023–2026 SGA Competitive Team Member

Accolades
Won One Arrow Shootoff

Jorge’s archery journey began with an unexpected discovery during his junior year of high school: a children’s wooden bow he found in a beachside trash can. What started as a bit of curiosity quickly grew into a passion, eventually taking him from shooting toy arrows to competing in Las Vegas alongside Olympians and grandmasters with his signature green barebow.

When Jorge joined SGA after his freshman year, he found much more than a place to practice archery. Through local tournaments, weekly practice sessions, friendly competitions, and post-tournament burger runs, he discovered a close-knit community that challenged him to grow both mentally and physically. Although he'd initially hoped to find lifelong friendships through a fraternity, Jorge found that sense of belonging and camaraderie through SGA instead, and he wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.

Jorge’s path in archery has also been one of perseverance and self-discovery. Living with kyphosis, a spinal condition that caused persistent back pain and made many sports difficult, he discovered that archery’s adaptability allowed him to compete while strengthening his shoulders and significantly reducing his discomfort. His experience has shaped his belief that archery is a sport for everyone, regardless of physical ability, and that challenges don’t have to define what we can accomplish.

After graduation, Jorge plans to pursue a career in pharmacy, continuing his commitment to helping others, while staying involved in competitive archery through local tournaments. He also looks forward to pursuing his creative passions in game development and writing novels and short stories. As he begins this next chapter in San Diego, Jorge carries with him the friendships, resilience, and memories he gained through SGA. Jorge, we wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

Jacob‘s archery journey began back in sixth grade when his dad bought him a compound bow, in hopes that the two would eventually go archery hunting together. Unfortunately, living in Arizona meant that stepping outside to shoot was practically a survival challenge, so his archery career was put on hold before it could really begin. Fast forward to his freshman year at UCSD, Jacob had made it through an entire fall quarter without joining a single club. After some encouragement (or perhaps a gentle intervention) from his parents over winter break, he decided to give archery another shot. With a little experience already under his belt, he found Sun God Archery, started showing up to practices, and somehow never stopped coming back.

Joining SGA halfway through the academic year wasn't necessarily the easiest experience. By winter quarter, many of the freshmen had already found their friend groups, leaving Jacob to navigate a club where it seemed like everyone already knew each other. Despite this, he continued showing up, sometimes without even talking to anyone. It wasn't until later that year, when he decided to step outside his comfort zone and travel to Sacramento for a tournament with the team, that things really began to change. What started as a somewhat intimidating trip turned into one of his favorite experiences, giving him the chance to get closer to his teammates and finally find the community he had been looking for. From that point on, the friendships only continued to grow, and SGA became much more than just a place to shoot arrows.

Over his four years with the club, Jacob became both an accomplished compound archer and a familiar face on the SGA board. Serving as Treasurer from 2024 to 2026 and earning his USA Archery Level 3 coaching certification, Jacob contributed to the club while also collecting an impressive number of medals along the way. From podium finishes at WROCC to team medals at SIACC, he has certainly had his fair share of competitive success. However, despite all the accomplishments, Jacob has always valued the people standing beside him more than the medals hanging around his neck. Whether it was celebrating on the podium with teammates, surviving questionable weather conditions, or collectively complaining about the wind as if that would somehow convince it to stop, the experiences he shared with others are what made every competition worthwhile.

When asked what he cherishes most about SGA, Jacob didn't point to a particular tournament or victory. Instead, it was all the little moments in between. The long car rides to competitions, the random conversations on the shooting line, the people he got to share podiums with, and the countless hours spent doing absolutely nothing productive besides hanging out with friends. Looking back, what Jacob is most proud of isn't necessarily how much he improved as an archer, but how far he came from being the freshman who would show up to practice without knowing anyone. Through a little persistence and a willingness to put himself out there, he found a place where he truly belonged and built friendships that will last well beyond his time as an undergraduate.

As for what comes next, Jacob isn't quite ready to leave UCSD just yet. He'll be sticking around for another year and a half to pursue his Master's in Computer Science, giving him a little more time before having to face the terrifying reality that is the current job market. What happens after that remains to be seen, but hopefully the job market decides to be a little nicer by then. Regardless of where life takes him, we want to thank Jacob for his years of dedication to Sun God Archery, both as our Treasurer and as a teammate. From the quiet freshman who barely knew anyone to the person who found a community he could call his own, Jacob's journey is a reminder that sometimes all it takes is showing up, putting yourself out there, and getting into a car headed to Sacramento with a bunch of people you barely know. We wish him the best in graduate school and whatever comes after, and hopefully he'll continue showing up to the field every now and then!

2024–2026 SGA Competitive Team Member

Andrea was in high school when she first picked up archery. When she came to UC San Diego, she found a flyer advertising Sun God Archery and decided to join the club and competitive team. She has been an invaluable member of the competitive team since, competing in the bowhunter division while representing UCSD.

When asked about what her favorite part of SGA was, she answered “the community and events”. One of her favorite events was SIACC 2025; though it may have been chaotic and hectic, it was a lot of fun and holds a lot of great memories for Andrea. Though one of her favorite parts about SGA is the community, there is no doubt that she has contributed far more back with her kindness and infectious energy.

After graduating, Andrea will be heading to UCSD’s very own Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. We wish her the best of luck in her journey forward!

Aden Wong

Sixth College

Senior Nickname: Crimson Chin

USA Archery Level 3 Coach
2022–2026 SGA Competitive Team Member
2023–2025 Facilities Manager
2025–2026 Vice President

Accolades
2023 SIACC Men’s Recurve 8th Flight Winner

Aden’s archery journey began during his sophomore year of high school, when he first picked up a bow simply for fun. What started as a casual hobby eventually became a significant part of his college experience. Wanting to continue shooting after arriving at UCSD, Aden joined Sun God Archery in 2022. While his initial motivation was to continue practicing the sport he enjoyed, it was ultimately the friendships he built along the way that kept him coming back year after year.

Throughout his four years with SGA, Aden grew not only as an archer but also as a dedicated member of the club's leadership. Serving as Facilities Manager from 2023 to 2025 before becoming Vice President for the 2025–2026 academic year, Aden spent much of his college experience contributing to the club both on and off the field. Alongside his responsibilities as an officer, he earned his USA Archery Level 3 coaching certification and continued developing his skills as a competitive recurve archer. Looking back, one of his proudest accomplishments has been seeing just how much he has improved since first joining the team, as well as knowing that he spent several years helping support the organization and the people who make it special.

For Aden, however, some of the best memories weren't necessarily made while shooting. His favorite moments came from traveling to competitions with his closest friends, where the experiences outside of the tournament venue were just as memorable as the competitions themselves. One trip that particularly stands out was Vegas Shoot, where being stuck in a car together for five hours somehow became one of the highlights of the experience. Whether it was spending hours on the road, hanging out between competition rounds, or simply enjoying each other's company, these moments reminded Aden that archery was about much more than scores and medals.

What made Aden's time with SGA meaningful was having the opportunity to grow alongside people who shared his passion for the sport. Over four years, the club became a place where he could challenge himself, improve as an athlete, contribute as a leader, and, most importantly, spend time with friends who made every practice and competition worthwhile. While his progress as an archer and years of service on the board are accomplishments he is proud of, the friendships and memories he made along the way are what truly defined his experience.

Looking ahead, Aden will be continuing his education at UCSD through the BS/MS program in Mechanical Engineering, with hopes of eventually putting his education to good use and landing a great job. Although his undergraduate journey is coming to an end, the friendships, experiences, and memories he has made through Sun God Archery will undoubtedly stay with him. We thank Aden for his years of dedication to the club, both as an officer and a teammate, and wish him all the best as he takes on the next chapter of his journey!
